I made a mixtape for ya’ll.

It’s full of tasty beats and pieces. Stuff that makes me happy, inspires me and helps me melt away from the real world. Hopefully you’ll find some new favourite tunes and artists. Or start questioning my tastes.

Anyways, get into it.
Share it around.
And go easy on it.
It’s the first time I’ve tried mixing since I was 16.

Paul Ruske (feat. Soweto Gospel Choir) - Washed In The River.

So this will hands-down be the most beautiful track you’re going to hear all day.

Those of you lucky enough to record an ad or two at Melbourne sound studio Final Sound will recognise that handsome fella above as Paul Ruske. He’s been busy in his down-time crafting his debut album which press releases everywhere will be describing as “echoing Neil Young, The Boss and Paul Simon”. However, don’t go expecting these singer-songwriter styles on the debut single, Washed In The River.

After conceiving a rough layout for the track, Ruske decided to approach The Soweto Gospel Choir. You know, just on the off chance the Grammy winners might like to lay down some vocals. Turns out they did. And a month ago, while the 30 member group were passing through Australia, half of them stopped by the studio to help create this soulful, gospel-inspired gem.

In case you were wondering, this is a huge deal. The SGC have only ever collaborated with Grammy Winners. For actual. In fact, Paul was telling me that the last artist they leant their vocals to was Bono. Yuh. That Bono.

Anyways, wrap your ears around the single, send it to everyone you’ve ever met, then head on over to the Ruske Music fan page and give our man a digital pat on the back.

k thx bye!

Hey so have you noticed how this space has been super quiet recently?
It might have something to do with the moving of content posting to ChrisHillary.tumblr.com (remember I mentioned that here).

It also might have a lot to do with me moving on from M&C Saatchi, to do my own thing.

I’m sure someone will come along and pick up where I’m leaving off.
They’ll probably be more talented.
Possibly better looking.
And definitely, definitely, they’ll make you lolz more.

For now, that person doesn’t exist.
But I do. And I’m at ChrisHillary.tumblr.com aka: Talk Me Thru It.
You should totes be there too.

There’s music and music videos and cool ads and ROFL-type-stuff and graphic eye candies. Total follow-worthy-type-stuff.

See you there soon.
Sincerely,
Chris.

PING PONG BY NOISE.

Quick! Sign up for inter-agency ping pong! The talented MARK. crew have developed a rad game for iPhone, in which ad agency folk can battle for digital bragging rights. And waste days of billable hours.

It’s a nice idea demonstrating the capabilities of Noise International, a sound studio based conveniently close to the M&C Saatchi / MARK. office.

Download the app, conquer the single player mode, then take on an opponent via blutooth. Battle days are May 19th, 26th and June 2nd. This couldn’t have come at a better time, as the M&C foosball table is on its last legs.

ps: prepare to get OWNED.

NEW BLOG!

Hello friends. The M&C Saatchi Melbourne blog has been a labour of love over the last 660 posts. But I’m afraid it’s time to move it right along.

It was initially designed as an intra-office sharing system for all things RAD. A place to mix our work with the latest and greatest. Rob, Greg, AJ, Bec and I took great joy in curating the cool. However, due to recent changes in the office, I am the only custodian left.

Hold your horses; I have not given up on clocking the internet. My endeavours to share the hippest and hoppest with you, are continuing at the recently created TALK ME THRU IT. Head on over, hit that follow button and join me on the next part of our digital journey.

Sincerely,
Chris.

ps: the M&C Saatchi blog will remain. It will however, be used solely for agency work and the occasional update of a Mr Delicious visit.

New t-shirt day!

To be fair, those who know me, know that every second day is new t-shirt day. But that doesn’t mean it’s not special. Or that I’m not excitable.

You see, today’s new threads arrive from the lovely folks at Kowtow. The New Zealand-based designers recently released their Equilibrium collection of organic cottony goodness. And in amongst the basic selections of tops, bottoms and sweats was this Consume gem.

Spend your hardly-earned pay here. Oh and best of all, this month 10% of your moolah goes to help Chch.

Glasses free 3D on iPad.

With a front facing camera now on iPad 2, apps can now track a users face in real time. This allows for some really interesting tech to be shown off. Like, being able to ‘mock’ 3D as you move your head. The possibilities for this are great. Imagine being able to find hidden items in games simply by peeking. Or being able to pop out of cover in a FPS simply by peering over the top. Can’t wait to see how this is implemented in games.

Soo much Cool Kids wednesday!

Up front we gots The Cool Kids x Nike x Footlocker x Grotesk colab. And wait, is that (among less important others) El Heat’s Chris Bosh in the joint? Yessir.

After the jump there’s a parody clip for the Chicago/Detroit based “new black Beastie Boys”. Plus a free download of Bundle Up thanks to everybody’s favourite label, Green Label Sound.

Creative Director: Year Zero.

Among the forests of advertising books, stands out this little beaut. It bills itself as ‘A collection of thoughts for first time [Creative Directors] from those who have been there’. Collated by those clever folks at I Have An Idea, the book features some of favourite creative heads. Including Whybin\TBWA’s Andy Blood and DDB China’s Victor Ng.

Embedded below (may not display in Dashboard) is a 15 page preview for those not silly enough to buy without thinking. Or if you’re like me, you can dive in, credit card first, here

Stihl ‘Mercy Dash’.

Classic work from DDB NZ on the follow-up to 2010’s Bequeathed (below) for Stihl. Nice direction too from Robber’s Dog’s Adam Stevens.

Hmmm. Nothing more to add here really.

Kiip - A new way to advertise through mobile

I reckon this is a start-up worth watching. The idea is simple; Reward gamers with real-world gifts (think coffee’s, ice-creams and more) just for leveling up in mobile games. They already have a bunch of partners involved, so expect to see many brands jumping on this very soon.

Read the full story over at TechCrunch.

Wish I’d thought of this.
Cash moneyz for shooting birds at pigs. Brand engagement with Bajillions of unengaged bird-launcherers.

Everybody wins.

Why a fictional character is the best copywriter in the world.

So I finally finished Mad Men Season 4 on the weekend. Not sure how I managed to dodge all the potential spoilers for the last year. But hearing the above letter being written / read, gave me copy goosebumps.

Oh crap. Probably too late to yell *Spoiler Alert*, isn’t it?

I want to make flowchart ads.

Marketing Campaign of the Day: New Era launched a new ad campaign today, which features John Krasinski as a die-hard Red Sox fan engaging in some exponentially trashier trash talk with loyal Yankees supporter Alec Baldwin.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox snapped a six-game losing streak by defeating the Yankees 9-6 on Opening Day at Fenway. Do with that what you will.

A very special visitor.

Our lovely receptionist Lozza was finally allowed to bring Mr Delicious into the agency for the day. Suffice to say everyone went gaga. No work was achieved. And puppy sales are forecast to skyrocket.

Say hi to the nice followers, Mr Delicious.
