Friday recipe for success: 4 parts Black Lips, 1 part Mark Ronson.

So hands up who’s anxiously snapping M&C branded pencils in anticipation for the Ronson-produced future-indie-cult success Arabia Mountain? *hand skyrockets, dislocating writer’s shoulder*

Here’s a teaser - the first video in which the Black Lips party on a boat (sans flipping dolphins and shit), with co-indie-darlings Vivian Girls. etc, etc. I can’t speak for the whole agency, but I just got a whiff of the weekend. 7:59:23 and counting.

ps: hands up if you’ve seen the BL tear apart a Brooklyn club? *other hand skyrockets, rendering writer useless for Friday’s remaining 7:53:17*

Cheer up with Bikini.

Facts: Bikini is Nigel and Oliver. Bikini are from New York. Bikini make music like Crystal Castles but Crystal Castles that you might play for your mum. If your mum was kinda almost cool. Bikini are giving away their single ACheerlaeder. You can listen to it and American Mourning below, then get your D-load on.

Dear diary, I have a crush on Magic Kids.

They’re seven friends who make music, have fun and are all about love. Sigh. I heard that every time they play music, a rainbow-coloured unicorn is born. Double sigh.

Listen to Summer, Superball and Hey Boy below. Then form your own Magic Kids fascination over at their MySpace.

Splendor, all up in your grass.

One of Australia’s best festivals is locked and loaded for the weekend. I’m not jealous. Not of Bianca. Not of Ellie. Nup. I’d rather be here. At work. Doing this.

If you’re in my boat, you can at least pretend like you’re raging around the forests of Woodford thanks to the boys of Purple Sneakers. Get your wiggle on to the Splendor All Up In Your Grass mixtape. For free (until the record companies get a heads up and crash the party). And see you at Miss Libs tomorrow night for an inner city indie dance off, the likes of which will never be matched.

Late night concepts need late night grooves.

That is the last time I use the word grooves. Ever. I promise.
If you’re like me, and you have an unhealthy addiction to working late, you’ll probably agree that finding the right working music is essential. For both creativity and procrastinations sake.

Luckily, I stumbled upon Purple Sneaker DJ’s latest sample mix. You’ll have to clench your indie fists in anticipation for another month until the full two-discer is released upon warehouse parties everywhere. But right now, get lost for 10 minutes and kid yourself that you’re about to crack the best idea of your life.
